Who Are You Carrying?

On Sunday, May 26th, 2019 Harrybrooke Park will host the 3rd Annual “Who Are you Carrying?” Event with Help Our Military Heroes (HOMH) "Heroes Workout." Each team will complete 2,500 reps of a grueling workout in the name of fallen veterans including 500 push-up, 500 sit-ups, 500 mountain climbers, 500 flutter kicks and 500 air squats. The good news in this workout is that you can build teams to do this workout WITH or challenge yourself to do it on your own. Last year, three individuals were able to do it alone and took a jog after. It was most impressive and they are looking for a challenger.

As the event is on the day before Memorial Day, we take a moment to honor these fallen heroes with some heart warming "pomp and circumstance" including our nation's greatest heroes. Along the way, we raise some dollars for two local non-profit charities that help the community. I would like to take the opportunity to ask you to join our efforts as we welcome year 3 of “Who Are You Carrying?”

HOMH is dedicated to delivering adaptive minivans to our wounded and injured military heroes who have served since the inception of the Iraq and Afghanistan wars. Harrybrooke is the home of this event.

This year only expects to grow in attendance of spectators and participants. We hold the event in the name of Petty Officer First Class Jason D. Lewis of Brookfield, CT. A 30-year-old Navy SEAL, Jason was killed twelve years ago this year, by an improvised explosive device (IED) during a combat mission in Baghdad. For this day, Jason’s Gold Star Mother, Jean Mariano, will be in attendance. While we hold the event in Jason’s name, each participant chooses a fallen hero who they are participating in memory of, and whose name is written across their shoulders, truly carrying the memory of that hero who inspires the participant to push harder. The emotions run as high as the energy and this is not an event you forget taking part in.

Event t-shirts for the first 100 registered participants.

Want to help raise even more money? We have two options:

  1. A special award will be given at the event to the participant who chooses to sell the event rubber bracelets and raise the most money doing so! Sell them for whatever you'd like. We hand you 25 bracelets for an additional $25 and you return with what you can raise as you praise this unique event! This challenge is limited to the first 12 teams who ask.
  2. Sponsorship! We have event sponsors, t-shirt space ... it's all there for you to choose and can be paid for right here on the website. Space is VERY LIMITED so get yours in today!

At the conclusion of the workout, we will gather at the pavilion for a few awards, refreshments and warm thanks for a job well done.

Thanks for checking out our event and we hope to see you soon!
