THE ECHOES OF LEACH HOLLOW

SHERMAN HISTORICAL SOCIETY Presents
THE ECHOES OF LEACH HOLLOW
At the JCC in Sherman

Sunday, September 23rd at 1PM

This is the story of a small Sherman community that thrived in the 1800’s, before it was flooded by the waters of Candlewood Lake; told with original photographs taken from glass plates in the Society’s Archives.

Gloria Thorne, Curator, will present the narrative, which is taken from an 1896 New Milford Gazette.  The editor took a tour with Dr. Hubble, by horse and cart, in search of a story on this community, which fit perfectly with the photographs.  The tour comes into the Center and down Sawmill Road to Leach Hollow, then across to Candlewood Mountain.  It is also appropriate to begin the 90th Anniversary of Candlewood Lake.

We invite you to save this date and join members of SHS and the JCC for an early fall afternoon of local history and refreshments.

Minimum donation of $10. Please RSVP to this event by Thursday, September 20th
