The Great Fire of 1902

Please join Joe Cats as he presents the The Changing Face of New Milford: The Fire of 1902which took place on May 5th 115 years ago on Bank Street, New Milford. The talk will include original photos and slides of the downtown area from the museum’s collection as well as interviews with E. Paul Martin and Merrill Golden, residents who experienced the fire first hand. Joe has also researched land records and newspaper accounts of the day to demonstrate what the community was like before and after the Great Fire of 1902 that changed the face of New Milford!

Joe Cats, a Trustee of the Historical Society, was born and raised in New Milford and has spent better than 20 years researching the building, people, and way of life here in New Milford.
